- I initially accepted Al Islam through an unexpected yet fruitful journey to Africa. Having always been intrigued with the struggle of the oppressed against the oppressor, I found myself amazed by witnessing the poorest of the poor having a dignity and a self respect in their downtrodden condtion that I've not witnessed amongst the indigineous oppressed anywhere else. Once realizing that Al Islam was the reason for this, I quickly dedicated my life to understanding the Islamic principles for overcoming oppression and how Allah commands its resistance. I've written the first of many other books to follow which detail what I've learned and strategized in A Worthy Muslim: Quranic Tools Needed to Overcome Oppression and Imperialism in Order to Institute Justice I am extremely busy currently giving interviews and conducting seminars on how best to deal with several of the issues raised in the book.

I was impresed by the fact the author stated Islam is not a religion but a way of life. I think this is lost in some other faiths, what good is a religion if you dont live for God. Also I would like to add that I have attended a lecture from Amir Makin and It was very moving. If anyone gets the chance I would recomend It.
Before I heard Amir Makin's seminar, I knew very little about the muslim way of life. He really helped me understand the beliefs & the reasons why they believe that way. I personally grew up as a Christian, learning nothing but the ways of a Christian life, & he really broadend the outlook of other ways. If he can so simply explain to where I could understand within the hour I heard him speak, I can only imagine how much more detail he put into the book. There is so much structure & purposes that are different from the way I live my life & its intriguing to hear the ways of other people & life lessons from the Qur'an.
I am glad I now have a better understanding of what Islam really is, before Amir Makin attended our class I guess I was part of the naive group of people that thought Islam seemed exotic or even extreme in this modern world we live in today. Perhaps this is because religion dose not dominate everyday life in North America. I admire the discipline that true Muslims have over the discipline that we as Christians have…. I must say I was almost converted… just kidding!!!!!
I would like to start off by saying thank you for your time and allowing us to learn a little history about the Muslim culture. I am a baptized holy ghost filled Jesus believing individual that absolutely loves and adore God. In my church we are taught that there is a God and his son is Jesus. But, I am at a point in my life that I want to learn more about everything that someone is willing to teach me, and I am will to do so without being judgmental. I will never forget I grew up with this guy that was very well known and liked in my neighborhood. As we got older he decided to become Muslim. At that point everyone in the neighborhood turned their backs on him saying that they did not believe what he stood for. I was heartbroken behind how he was treated by people that had known him since he was seven years old. Until, this day I have heard that my friend is a Muslim that love his Quran and everything about it. What I love so much about God is that he gives us free will and choices that allows us to make decisions. Now it is totally up to us if the decisions affect us positively, or negatively. What's important to me is that he is happy and prosperous, and from what I hear he is. So finally I had the opportunity to hear with my own ears what the Muslim culture is about. Amir Ian Makin thank you again for your lecture and your interview it really helped me and put some things into perspective.
Before Amir Makin's seminar in class I knew nothing about Muslim traditions or their beliefs and values. I used to think that the men that participated in this religion were the reason for women having to cover specific areas of their body and I was intimidated by the culture do the attacks on September 11. I understand now that those who carried out the attacks were not "practicing" their religion because if they were then they would not have committed those attacks. I also learned that women cover themselves, not because of man, but because they believe that Mary, Khadijah, Fatima, and Aasiyah all did this and they are thought as the "4 most perfect women who have ever walked the face of earth".
I love that Islam is said to be a way of life and not just a religion. I think people don't take religion as seriously as they used to and by saying Islam is a way of life, it brings out the true meaning and allows for everyone to understand that there is history behind it all. I believe anyone can say I practice a certain type of religion, but it takes a true believer to say that a certain religion is a way of life. I strongly encourage for people to attend Amir Makin seminars. He really changed my perspective on things!

I really liked how you went in to details about your religion. I appreciate you coming to our class and explain Islam. Because i really did have a very diff. concept. My favorite thing was when you said "Islam is not a religion is a way of life". And I'm glad that you stand up for something you believe in.
Never have I learned what it really was to be a Muslim. That was until this interview with Amir Makin speaking about his experience and beliefs. Amir explained very well in short term for understanding and even still makes you want to read the book. Actually, I happen to experience one of his seminars and may I add that it is really interesting. I haven't seen a better speaker yet with such a good way of explaining his beliefs without any insulting. Especially one who is really devoted to his own. The book seems interesting and I recommend other schools to have Amir be a guest presenting his culture as a study of life.

Having heard Amir Makin's seminar in class, I learned a lot about the Islam way of life that I hadn't known before. It was really moving to get the chance to see someone that still stands for something, and still believes in something. Many of the people today that say they are Christian or Catholic, or any other religion for that matter, hardly possess the dedication and disclipine that Amir Makin showed my other classes mates and I in just minutes. He really put a lot of things into perspective for me, and I believe that the Islam way of life is very respectable.
I knew absolutely nothing about the Muslim religion or, what they practiced. I must say that after listening to Amir Maki, I am very impressed with his discipline and he enthusiam for his religion and what he believes in. Like so many others I too had the wrong idea of what the Muslim religion was and what it stood for. I was pleasantly suprised.

Since September 11's tradgedy occured, many American's were lead to think that it was because of Muslim's, but that is not the Muslim way. My father is a pastor and I grew up learning totally different view's than what I learned in Amir's speach. It's great to get other perspective's in life and not be so single minded.
